About Me
I am Phoebe Zhang, a Mandarin educator with over 20 years of experience in language education, localization, and professional communication. I hold a Master’s degree in Applied Linguistics from NIE (NTU) and have also worked in corporate language leadership roles with global organizations such as Lionbridge, Tag Worldwide, and WPP.
Over the years, I have taught executives, postgraduate medical students, and international school learners, helping them develop practical Mandarin skills that are truly useful in business, healthcare, schools, and daily life.
My teaching approach is centred on the learner. I take time to understand my students and incorporate relevant topics, role-plays, and interactive activities to ensure my classes are engaging, dynamic, and meaningful. My students at the international school raised their grade from a C to an A in just two semesters. The medical students I taught were able to apply what we covered in class directly to their internships, leading to better communication with patients. The executives I worked with appreciated the impressed reactions they received when they used a few Chinese sentences with their Chinese-speaking counterparts. Supporting students in developing a passion for Mandarin and empowering them to use the language confidently and effectively brings me great fulfilment.

Currently, I teach Medical Mandarin to postgraduate students at Duke-NUS, focusing on practical language used in healthcare environments. Students learn medical terminology in Mandarin, effective patient communication strategies, and professional phrasing required for clinical consultations. My approach ensures that learners can communicate clearly, respectfully, and accurately in real medical contexts.

For conversational learners, I help students develop natural, confident Mandarin for everyday life.
